Meeting Date: Jan. 16, 2023, at the Anglican Hall.
President Kees opened the meeting at 6:30 pm. After the national anthem, grace, and dinner, plus thanking the ACW for the dinner, Kees started the meeting.
Program:
1. Kees: I introduced Brett Smith, Treasurer of the Chatham Rotary Club, with a message about the District Conference
- It is May 5-7, 2023 in Windsor, in combination with D. 6400
- He is an ambassador to promote the conference
- It’s $495 US, which includes what he feels is not bad for 2 nights and all meals
- It is the only conference that Jennifer Jones, President of RI, will be speaking at, on a Friday night
- To just go to the Friday night dinner is $250 US
- If interested, go to D.6380.org and take the link to the conference and hit “guest”
- There is a spotlight for good projects which gives clubs 5 minutes at the mic to describe their project
- The House of Friendship will allow clubs to display any project they have done and wish to display
2. Kees: PowerPoint presentation
- Kees had 3 videos to show about the “Sand Motor”, a project that was started in Holland in 2010 to try to protect a part of the Dutch shoreline, where serious flooding had taken place in the 50s
- There was a great amount of information provided in these videos,
- It was difficult to take notes but if you wish, you can find them on the internet by entering “sand motor”
- The results have been very effective and have turned this part of the shoreline into wonderful beaches, natural habits, and playgrounds for those interested
- It was very interesting to see what they had accomplished
Thanks to the speaker: David Klatt thanked Kees for his presentation
Both speakers, Brett and Kees signed Rotary Book labels for St. Michael School
3. Kees: Fundraiser discussion
- Pancake Breakfast with the scouts in Feb. or March at the Scout Hut
- Scott leader Adam will come to talk to us about what will happen and possible dates
- Several members expressed interest in helping out, with cooking the pancakes, etc
