Meeting Date: April 2 
The meeting was a joint meeting of Tlibury, Ridgetown, Blenheim and Dresden in Tilbury with Dresden people not having the very good lunch.
Program:  Tilbury Co-President Kathy Cottingham introduced the guest speaker Lee Halsted and his wife from a Michigan club. Lee is the incoming  6380 District Governor, in 2026-27
  • Lee spoke about the Peace Pole but also covered several other topics dealing with Rotary’s Peace initiative
  • He titled his talk “Peace on the Road’ and this was the first one of many he will give throughout the district
  • In 1921, RI identified “understanding, goodwill and peace” as a primary objective
  • At its 1940 convention, delegates adopted the “Respect for Human Rights Resolution” which was a precursor to the UN’s 1948Universal Declaration to Human Rights”
  • In 1962, President Kennedy formed the Peace Corp, during the many student riots in the US over the Vietnam war
  • Peace is one of Rotary’s 7 Pillars
  • Without pace, there cannot be adequate Food, Water and sanitation, Health Care, Education, Infrastructure, a healthy economy and Individual happiness
  • He talked about Rotary and The Institute for Economics and Peace and showed a diagram of the 8 Pillars of Positive Peace
  •  Positive Peace describes an optimum environment for human potential to flourish
  • Each year, Rotary selects up to 100 professionals from around the world to receive fully funded academic fellowships at Rotary Peace Centres
  • Lee also mentioned the Rotary Action Group for Peace which empowers and supports the peace work worldwide Rotarians by offering structure, guidance resources to further their peace efforts
  • One way that D 6380 Peace Committee achieves its goals is by Promoting the Proliferation of Peace Poles which we already have in the garden by the Cenotath
  • Lee encouraged all D.6380 clubs to have Peace Builder clubs within their Interact and Roteract clubs
  • Peace Poles come in a couple of sizes, with the 5 foot poles having 4 saying in different languages on the 4 sides, and the larger 8 foot poles with 8 sayings
  • It was an interesting presentation
