Meeting Date: 2021-11-08
President Jeff opened the meeting at 6:30 pm. After the national anthem, grace and dinner, plus thanking the ACW for the dinner, Jeff started the meeting.
Program: This was a business meeting.
1. Jeff: Update on Pints for Polio.
All 2000 cans were sold. Total $ figures to follow.
- All profits to be split amongst the 5 C-K clubs.
2. Jeff: Update on Rotary Christmas Party to be held at the Anglican Hall on Monday Dec. 6th.
- Results of Member survey indicated that everyone is happy with Ron’s proposed meal. Several suggestions were given for the Guest List for Party. Ron will provide refreshments.
- Paul will arrange for a small chocolate for each dinner plate as well as a chocolate prize package for the games to be played. Jeff and Paul have some ideas.
- Ben suggested that Mrs. Carter, wife of the former HH owner, Mark’s mother, be asked to be the entertainment along with a few others. Ben will look into inviting her.
3. Jeff: Update on Foundation and Membership Gala Virtual Tuesday November 9th.
- Jeff reminded members of the gala, and the $30 US to participate in this virtual event.
4. Remembrance Day Wreath has been ordered.
- Kees had been contacted and ordered the wreath.
- Jeff will attend the service on the club’s behalf.
5. Jeff: An idea for a Club Fund Raiser.
- John Cryderman has made a plaque from two boomerangs with the Rotary symbol in the centre for the club to use as a fundraiser. A photo is provided at the end of these minutes.
- It was decided to hold an auction for this very unique item, with all C-K clubs invited to participate.
6. Paul: The Gift Nov. 20, 2021.
- This will be held at noon on Nov. 20, 2021.
- The town is divided up into 4 quadrants, with the Rotarians doing the SW one.
- All donations will be taken to the Scout Hut for sorting and distribution.
- Paul asked that used clothing, toys, etc not be collected.
7. Jeff: Update on possible gathering of the Clubs to meet DGE Bala Murthy.
- Jeff has received very short notice about this meeting with DGE Bala.
- It has been suggested that we combine with the Dresden club, on Monday Nov. 15th.
- After much, sometimes heated discussion, the following motion was made.
- M/S Paul/Bob: that President Jeff invite the Dresden club to join us here in Ridgetown on Nov. 15, 2021 to meet DGE Bala. CARRIED.
- President Jeff through ADG Ken C. will invite the Dresden club and once he knows their reply and if they will come to Ridgetown, via email will ask which of our members will attend.
- This meeting will count as our other November meeting, so we won’t meet again until the Christmas Party, Dec. 6th.
- DGE Bala will be meeting with other clubs during next week.
8. Jeff: Ridgetown Christmas Parade.
- This will take place on Saturday, Dec. 11, on the fairgrounds behind the arena.
- It will be a stationary parade, ie the floats will be around the outside/inside of the track and cars will drive around the track to see them.
- Paul will ask the Scouts whether they would be interested in participating.
- Reinout offered his wagon, for them to use to set up a display, with our Merry Christmas banners around the base of the wagon.
9. Jeff: Options for Upcoming Speakers – Reminder
Committees:
1. Jeff: Update on Scrap Metal.
- Kees is absent but informed Jeff that two containers were sent last week.
Other:
1. Ron: The Anglican Hall Floor is being redone.
- Ron described the process that is taking place over a 2 week period, starting on Dec. 17th.
- This will not affect our Dec.20 meeting, other than the floor will not be finished.
President Jeff asked if there was “Anything for the good of Rotary?”
