Program: Rotarian Bill Long will be the guest speaker about economics
- Scientific analysis of economic systems is a relatively new endeavor
- However, the inherent sense of how economies is as old as the dawn of Civilization
- The idea of a relationship between the abundance of a commodity and the usefulness of that commodity dictates the amount of money an individual was willing to pay for it, was first stated in the early 1600s by John Laws, an English landlord.
- The idea that governments could regulate the economy has only come to be accepted
since early part of the twentieth century
- Though many economists are today more sceptical of this ability
- You may be familiar with the term "a black swan event" referring to an event nobody expected
- Such an event occurred in 1972 when The Soviet Union bought almost 8% of the North American Inventory of Wheat!
- This had an almost catastrophic spike in inflation which lead it economic instability
for the next decade
- There are many instances of government intervention in the economy which not always
result in successful out comes: Marketing Boards, Minimum Wage legislation and Price Controls
- The World economy goes through Cycles and has done for centuries and the ability of any country or continent to prevent these Cycles is beyond their ability.
- So in conclusion, when a government party running for election promises "GOOD TIMES if elected”, maybe we should be a little skeptical

- All members, not attending are expected to assist

- Purchase of a stand – alone banner, for our table and future displays
4. Henny: Easter Egg Hunt – April 4th, 2026
- At the Scout Hut
- Won’t cost much for toys because of donations
5. Kees: East Kent Celebrates is having a volunteer appreciation dinner
- Mar. 12th, 2026, at the Legion
- Kees had 3 tickets and asked those interested in going to give him their names
- He drew names
6. Ron B: Amendments to the Bylaws
- David B didn’t have them on them on his computer, so discussion was postponed
50-50 and Happy Bucks
- David B, Judy and George has happy bucks
- 50-50 Ben won and donated his share to the Rotary Foundation
President David asked if there was “Anything for the good of Rotary?”
President David closed the meeting unofficially at approximately 8:00 pm.
