Meeting Date:Jan,8 2024 After the usual wonderful meal prepared by the ACW, Ron started the meeting by thanking the ladies in the kitchen.
Program:
1. Kees Boeters introduced Don Jackson
- Don is from the Blenheim Rotary club, is the District Financial Chair and is a Paul Harris Society Associate
- The DG Collyer Smith has indicated that he would like to see more members/guests attending the November District Gala
- Don was at our meeting to talk about the Rotary Foundation
- He read the goals of the Foundation, available on its website
- He is impressed that our club has 100% donation to the Foundation every year, when many clubs and members in the District have never donated
- He handed out a contribution form for that can be used to make contributions to the Foundation
- On it, members when making a contribution can chose one or more of 11 “designations/purposes” for their donation to be applied; impressive
- Don talked briefly about the Rotary International Convention, to which he has gone to the ones in Montreal and Toronto: none of our members have attended one
- He talked about the Foundation’s fight against Polio and also highlighted Terry Youlton’s involvement in that fight
- For every dollar Rotary puts towards that fight, the Bill Gates Foundation contributes $2
- He also discussed various District grants and the $30000 Global Grants
- Don explained how a member becomes a Paul Harris Fellow, which members become when they have contributed $1000 to the Foundation
- He also explained all of the levels within the Foundation
- The Foundation began in 1917, starting with about $26
- The Foundation is the driving force within the Rotary International
- There is now $400M in the Foundation, and $600M in the endowment Fund, where only the interest from this fund is used for projects
- 91% of the money donated into the Foundation comes back to be used in projects, both locally and internationally
- Don also mentioned that all of our club has donated to the Polio Plus fund
- Kees thanked Don for his presentation
2. Paul: The latest RYLA info was presented
- April 19th - 21st, 2024 at Camp Copneconic in Fenton, MI.
- Reinout has suggested that $1000 should cover the cost for 2 from RDHS
- $250 for each registration plus travel there and back
- Paul has spoken to Deb Reitberger, the guidance counselor and who is the teacher who looks after getting potential RYLA students.
- He will forward the relevant info to her
3. Paul: The latest Adventures in Citizenship was presented
- May 26th – 29th
- $1500 approved for the 2024 budget
- He will forward the relevant info to Deb Reitberger
- #28 is our registration number
Correspondence:
1. C-K Hospice Foundation, Ridgetown Skating Club, C-K Women’s Centre, Canadian Wheelchair Foundation have all made requests for monetary help
- No decision was made
- Directors to decide at their next meeting, on Jan. 18, 2024
2. Kim Scoyne
- Kim sent a very nice card thanking the club for having her speak on Dec. 18th, 2023 and purchasing the 4 turkeys for families who were in need
Committees:
1. Ron: The 2024 Car Show
- It will take place on July 14th, the second Sunday in July, as is always the case.
New Business
1. Bob: Pancake Breakfast
- Scouts have been asking when we will do it this year
- David B will ask at the Scouts’ meeting tonight, with it to be after Easter, which is Mar. 31st, 2024
2. Ron: Our President-Elect for 2024-25
- Ron once again mentioned our need for a President-Elect
- There was discussion about the need for one, what was involved, perhaps considering the person as a leader as opposed to president
- We need to have this figured out soon.
Other
1. David B mentioned that his family sponsored a polar plunge recently and raised $250 for the CK Children Treatment Centre
President Ron asked if there was “Anything for the good of Rotary?”
