1Kees Boeters introduced Don Jackson
  • Don is from the Blenheim Rotary club, is the District Financial Chair and is a Paul Harris Society Associate
  • The DG Collyer Smith has indicated that he would like to see more members/guests attending the November District Gala
  • Don was at our meeting to talk about the Rotary Foundation
  • He read the goals of the Foundation, available on its website
  • He is impressed that our club has 100% donation to the Foundation every year, when many clubs and members in the District have never donated
  • He handed out a contribution form for that can be used to make contributions to the Foundation
  • On it, members when making a contribution can chose one or more of 11 “designations/purposes” for their donation to be applied; impressive
  • Don talked briefly about the Rotary International Convention, to which he has gone to the ones in Montreal and Toronto: none of our members have attended one
  • He talked about the Foundation’s fight against Polio and also highlighted Terry Youlton’s involvement in that fight
  • For every dollar Rotary puts towards that fight, the Bill Gates Foundation contributes $2
  • He also discussed various District grants and the $30000 Global Grants
  • Don explained how a member becomes a Paul Harris Fellow, which members become  when they have contributed $1000 to the Foundation
  • He also explained all of the levels within the Foundation
  • The Foundation began in 1917, starting with about $26
  • The Foundation is the driving force within the Rotary International

  • There is now $400M in the Foundation, and $600M in the endowment Fund, where only the interest from this fund is used for projects
  • 91% of the money donated into the Foundation comes back to be used in projects, both locally and internationally
  • Don also mentioned that all of our club has donated to the Polio Plus fund
  • Kees thanked Don for his presentation
2.  Paul: The latest RYLA info was presented
  • April 19th - 21st, 2024 at Camp Copneconic in Fenton, MI.
  • Reinout has suggested that $1000 should cover the cost for 2 from RDHS
  • $250 for each registration plus travel there and back

  • He will forward the relevant info to her
