Meeting Date: Dec. 19, 2022, at the Anglican Hall.
President Kees opened the meeting at 6:30 pm. After the national anthem, grace, and dinner, plus thanking the ACW for the dinner, Kees started the meeting.
Program: This was a business meeting.
1. Kees: Guest Speaker, John Wright
- John spoke about Chatham-Kent Municipal Affairs
- They are working on a budget that with 6% inflation will be a hard one to do and not cause a significant tax increase
- There is a $25000 grant from Ontario Hydro for each ward of the municipality
- John would like to see it used to improve the crosswalk by Nahhii Ridge Elementary school
- There was also talk about making the crosswalk by Foodland more visible for cars approaching from the east along Main St.
- In answer to questions about the corner of Ridge Road and Hwy 15, there was discussion about perhaps putting in a roundabout
- John says that there is enough land there for one
- He also told us that Premier Ford’s Bill 23 has lots of problems
- The Government has taken away much of the authority of the Lower Thames Valley Conservation Authority
- He also talked about the many problems just trying to run the municipality
- John has purchased a small piece of property on Edtha St behind the high school, 105” x 175”
- He wants the Rotary Club to take it over, with the single restriction that it be named after his daughter who died 25 years ago in a car crash
- It would be called the Leslie Wright Memorial Park
- He would like to see it as a healing park, with the center area cleared and surrounded by the larger trees already there
- He would clear the center of the sumac trees there now
- He would pay all costs, with a legal document drawn up covering all of this
- Rotary’s insurance would cover the area
- Kees and Paul are to meet John there to see the exact area involved with Paul taking photos and distributing them to the club

2. Reinout: Financial reports

- Kees spent about 15 minutes showing members how to log onto My Rotary and what is in it
- Reinout gave us a brief update on our finances
- Scrap metal at $6100, so about $4000 to reach our goal of $10000
- He paid $3100 for community service and he listed them all
- He gave us the amounts of where we stand in our various accounts
3. Kees: Membership discussion about new member Joel Van De Hogen
- His dues would be $200 which we would pay to RI
- He would pay for his meals when he comes to meetings
- M/S Kees/Warren that Kees present this to Joel for his consideration C
4. Ron: Discussion about the new board for 2024
- Ron was in Florida, so this discussion is postponed til the next meeting

3. Brochure and ask for donations from the C.K. Children’s Treatment Centre
- Paul will phone them and see what the money would be used for
- (Paul has since done the phone call and sent the answer to all members)
