The Directors discussed the request from the CK Hospice Foundation
Reinout is to look into it
It was suggested that we invite the new director of the Hospice to come and do a presentation
The Directors discussed the request from the East Kent Committee for funds to help with the summer concert and decided to give them $500
RDHS Gr. 7/8 has asked that we give them $30 to cover the cost of our Award of Excellence
As usual, we shall do so
We received a card from Carla thanking the club for the Paul Harris Award
We also received a card from Elaine Bolohan for her second Paul Harris Award
We received a card from Sylvia Blay and Melissa Walker thanking us for our donation to them in the spring of 2024 to help them build 10 Hospital Helps bags for their Building Healthy Babies members
Program: Kees introduced our speaker Jeff Geddes speaking about his grandfather, who was a painter.
Jeff’s great grandfather, Fred Hines was an artist in the late 1800s and early 1900s
Theodore, Fred’s brother was also a painter in oils while Fred painted with water base
Jeff gave us a bit of history about how his grandfather, his mother’s father, came to Canada in the 1910s as part of a program with a Boy’s Club which had been set up to give poor children in England a better life
He went to the Annapolis Valley, Nova Scotia where he and other lads worked in the apple orchards
When WW1 started, he was of age to sign up and went to France, a life hardening experience that went on and on
He was wounded, went back to England where he met Jeff’s grandmother
They married, went back to the Valley in Nova Scotia, ended up farming and had 4 girls, the youngest being Jeff’s mother
Fred Hines was Jeff’s great grandfather on her mother’s side
Early in WW2, the broker\s warehouse where many of Fred and Theodores’ paintings were stored was bombed and everything was destroyed
Luckily, there were many of Fred’s painting not in that warehouse
Members of Jeff’s mother’s family had developed an interest over the years and through document research, lists have been made that identify where painting can be found, all over the world
Interested when he had taken his grandfather in his 80’s back to England to meet up with his brothers and sisters
He is aware of 333 of his great grandfather’s paintings that exist
Claudia, Jeff’s wife decided to get Jeff some of these paintings, which involved bidding on line, very late at night, to try and get these paintings through brokers in England
He now has 15 or so of these paintings
Jeff also brought a few paintings as well as a binder with photos of some 300 of the paintings
It was a very interesting presentation

It is going well
David K suggested perhaps raising the amount given when you win a 50-50 draw, or to have a fewer numbers of draws
Their was some discussion but no decision was made
b) David B: Pancake Breakfast, April 5th, 2025
It went very well, although the attendance was down by about a third
David B was not sure of the net outcome
c) Brian: Easter Egg Hunt

Not much change
Brian went over the schedule and who’s doing what
He and Glenda have filled all of the goody bags
The Independent has been a great help
d) Kees and David B: District Assembly, April 12th
David B went with Kees to Troy Michigan
It was quite good with lots of business covered
The district’s membership is down to about 1200
If it keeps going down, RI may look at amalgamating with another district or two
e) Henny: Spring Fling - Thursday, April 3rd, 2025
Henny gave the results
72 CK Rotarians attended and it was very successful
Shelterbox: Kees brought up the great need in Myanmar
The Directors discussed it at their meeting earlier this afternoon
2 Shelterboxes will be purchased as Reinout says we have the funds
Sergeant-at-Arms: David K: 50-50 and Happy Bucks:
Paul put in $2 for his two granddaughters whose teams both made the provincial hockey playoffs with the London
Ron is ending his 8th decade
Reinout thanked Jeff for looking after the finances while he was away
Leader Kees asked if there was “Anything for the good of Rotary?”
Leader Kees closed the meeting at 8:06 pm
