Meeting Date: March 18 2024 After the usual wonderful meal prepared by the ACW, Ron started this business meeting by thanking the ladies in the kitchen.
Program: Ron started the evening with Classification Talks by David Brian; Beatrice Gedion was unable to give her talk due to work commitments.
1. David Brian
Using Google Slides, David presented a very eventful classification talk
Started in Tecumseh in an Irish family of 9
Married to Elizabeth Lum in 2004, with son Finnegan, born in 2012
Elizabeth is Canadian Born Chinese, her parents left China in 1959 as the situation there was getting tricky
After graduating high school, he and a friend went on a trip across Europe and Asia
They went by train from London to Paris, Venice, Yugoslavia, Turkey, Afghanistan, Pakistan, India, Iran (after quite a wait to be allowed in,) and on to Nepal
Going on to Hong Kong and then to Hawaii and home
He mentioned that in some countries they are very much a novelty
From 1980-84, he attended the U of Guelph to get a Bachelor of Arts degree in Geography and International Development International
His second trip was in 1985 with a focus on Asia
China was a very different world in 1985, with steam-driven trains, and of course a visit to the Great Wall of China which was quite strenuous to cover
His second degree was in 1986-87 at Lakehead U in Education
With two job offers, one in northern Ontario and one in Hong Kong which he took,eventually ending up at the Chinese International School, being in HK from 1987 to 2006
David’s signature teaching style was experimental learning, involving his students in a wide range of activities including trips to China and field experiments
Six years in a row, he and his students worked with the poorest village in China
He and his family returned to Windsor where he taught at Upper School at Academie Ste-Cecile International School
In 2018, the family returned to Suzhou, a city with lots of canals and bridges where David taught, staying until 2022
David’s passions are running, dragon-boat racing in Chatham, motorbiking and When ping-pong
For a project worked on with his students while teaching in Windsor, he was given a General Governor’s Award.
David is now very active as a leader in the Ridgetown 1st Scouts
David has certainly led an extremely active life seeing a great many parts of the world
It was certainly a wonderful presentation

Just 50% of the 6 periods have someone to take, 3 periods are still open.
If no one comes forward regarding what to do for the 2024-25 president, the Board will have to decide

4. Brian: Easter Egg Hunt
Henny purchased prizes for each age group
Everything is arranged
Pack gift bags not done after the meeting; the Independent still collecting candy and should be available after the 22nd of March. Brian P. will inform you when the bags will be filled.
5. David B: Pancake breakfast
7:00 pm Friday for setup and 7:30 am Saturday for members to be at the Anglican Parish Hall
David B has made up posters and has them around Ridgetown and Blenheim
6. Kees: The Ridgetown 150th anniversary in 2025 celebrations
The committee needs to know from our club what we want to do during the several concerts
Also, we will do our car show on the 2nd Sunday in July, with a special promotion for every antique car
There will also be hiking groups, among other activities that the committee is working on
Local service clubs and other organizations will be asked to sponsor various activates

Paul: The Ridgetown Quilters sent a letter requesting funds for purchasing fabric
After a brief discussion, with Paul reading the part describing the amazing number of places they donate quilts to
M/S Paul/Henny: The Ridgetown club donate $200
