  1. Program:
David Klatt : Speaker Amy Osborne, Town Library
  • Amy was very glad to come to our club to speak about the Town Library
  • She looks after the Ridgetown, Highgate, and Bothwell libraries as the Branch Head
  • Amy brought a display of a wide variety of books and many other items that you can get from the library
  • It was very impressive, certainly, more than many of us were aware is in there
  • You can keep a book or other items for three weeks, with extensions sometimes being available
  • Members can also put books, magazines, books on CDs, DVDs, etc on hold
  • Books (fiction/non-fiction), large print titles, TV series, video games, DVDs, puzzles, and  board games
  • No limit on how many ones can take out, with some exceptions
  • There are also books called Playaways which are books downloaded in MP3 format to a small device that is super light and easy to carry and use. It just needs headphones and a battery to operate
  • Walking sticks and pedometers are available
  • There are books about cities, maps, and travel
  • Lots of history books about Ridgetown and the area
  • A LaunchPad, for adults, teens and children has preloaded games, that can be taken home for three weeks
  • There are Microfilms plus there is a microfilm scanner to view them
  • You can come to the library and log onto Ancestry.ca through the library’s account, bringing a USB stick to save any information you get, or email it to your home address
  • Anything broken or lost must be replaced, which is not necessarily cheap but children’s materials do not occur late fees anymore as long as items are returned
  • Other libraries in C-K have quiet rooms where you can reserve and meet in privacy via the internet with doctors, lawyers, and other professionals
  • There are Hotspots that allow you to use Wifi for three weeks, which is good all across Canada
  • The Book Club meets in person on the second Tuesday of each month and the Spice Club with a zoom meeting on the last Tuesday of each month
  • On March 21, members from Enbridge will be at the library to assist folks with their taxes
  • There is another wide array of services at the library that can be accessed on ckpl.ca
  • Those without membership cards or with outdated or lost cards are encouraged to  go to the library and get a card or update theirs
  • These statistics help the library when presenting its budget proposals to the Municipality for funding each year.
Bob Wilson thanked Amy, having her sign the backs of some labels for books in the St. Michael School Library
  1. Kees: Fundraiser Pancake Breakfast with the scouts
  • Feb. or March at the Scout hut, although there are ongoing discussions that it all be done in the Anglican Church hall, cooking and serving
  1. Kees:  Easter Egg Hunt April 8 at the Scout hut.
  • No permit needed
  • David/Judie will organize it, with it still being done at the Scout Hut
  • We need to get rid of the outdated toys we still have hanging around
  • Jeff mentioned that we need to do this soon since costs are continually increasing for new toys
  • The toys will be sorted, on Monday, Feb. 6, 2023, at 6:30 pm in the hall
  • Kees will bring them from the medical storage room
  1. Kees:  Polio Plus Society
  • We can have all this Pin since we all made a donation to polio plus this year.
  • Kees has filled in the form for the club
  • ADG Ken Corlett will come and bring these pins to the club.
