Meeting Date: 2021-07-11, at Watson Grove. President Jeff opened the meeting at 6:30 pm, with the singing of O Canada.
Jeff presented Ben with his Past President pin.
Jeff welcomed back Terry to our meetings and welcomed Mary Jane.
She thanked Ben for everything he did for Terry during his year as president.
Program: This was a business meeting.
1. Correspondence received.
• None
2. Jeff: Advised Members that the Two Ladies' church groups will once again provide meals to our Club starting the first meeting in September.
Meetings will be held outside the Hall until we go into the next phase.
3. Jeff: Excess in our Operating Account.
• Silva (Fab) Fabiano, RBC Banking Advisor on Royal Mutual Funds contacted us. It could go into a GIC Cashable that could earn us 2% a year.
• Easily cashed. No Penalty. We could take it out in the morning and cash it in the afternoon.
In less than 30 days there will be no interest.
• Since neither Reinout nor Warren were at this meeting, no decision was made.
• It was pointed out that no money from District grants can be put into an interest-bearing account.
4. Jeff: Ideas for remaining Summer Meetings.
• Jeff asked about using the Anglican Hall, and although no one objected, it was pointed out that summer spousal meetings were in the past held at another location.
• Suggestions were the golf course, lawn bowling with the Kiwanis club.
• (As an aside, I asked our neighbor who works at the golf course, and they can do meals and serve up in their big room, which we have used in the past.)
5. Jeff: Use of sizeable donation towards Medical Equipment Maintenance.
• Kees brought up the question again re a dehumidifier in the medical equipment storage room.
• He has contacted Bill Yeck, who says that as long as it does not put a large drain on his electrical system, he is fine with it.
• Kees says that the one he looked into used only 10 Amp. • We can’t have a heater since it encourages mold.
• All were in agreement that something must be done.
• Will discuss again next meeting.
6. Jeff: Decision to spend $25 on News Ad to promote Saturday Market
• Jeff went ahead and put an ad in the Independent.
• COVID issues/actions by CK Health left individual vendors confused and may have driven them away.
• We had a vested interest to clarify because of our pending Crocus Sales.
• All were in agreement that it was money well spent.
• The ad is on the July 7th Independent, 3rd page. Committees:
1. Kees/Henny: Crocuses for Polio
• The Independent will sell crocuses for us at their office on Main St.
• As an aside, there was mention that CK wants to rename all parks in CK.
• That idea did not go over well at the meeting.
• There was discussion about the Memory Trail and the various branches of it and their names.
Jeff: Call for items of interest from the membership.
1. Henny:
• There is a weekly quilting group that voluntarily makes quilts for homeless folks from Windsor to Toronto.
• They meet every Wednesday in the basement of the Presbyterian Church.
• In discussions with Henny, one of the quilters mentioned their need for a new sewing machine.
• There was much discussion about this, including the cost and perhaps getting them a used machine via Rant/Rave.
• The cost of $800.00 was suggested, although some felt that this was low.
• The need for an industrial machine was also mentioned.
• Henny will go back to them and ask for a formal request, including model and cost. President Jeff asked if there was “Anything for the good of Rotary?” Jeff closed the meeting at 7:30 pm. The next meeting is on July 26th, 2021, location to be announced.
