Meeting Date:  On Monday, June 10, 2024, after the usual wonderful meal prepared by the ACW, Ron started this meeting by thanking the ladies in the kitchen.
Program:  Ron started the meeting with Paul B introducing his guest speaker, Skylar Rutledge, our attendee this year at the Adventures in Citizenship
1.   Skylar thanked the club for sending her to such a wonderful experience
  • She used a Google photo presentation to help explain the whole Adventure
  • She flew on Porter Airlines, with another student from Tilbury who she met in the airport in Windsor, on Saturday, May 25th
  • Windsor to the Toronto Island airport and then on to Ottawa
  • The students all stayed in a residence on the campus of the university of Ottawa
  • Day I was spent at the U of O getting to know all of the other 175 students there, Gr 10-12 from all across Canada, with some clubs sending more than one student
  • Day 2 involved 2 speakers (John Heckbert and Ryan Katz-Rosene), a visit to the National  War Museum and then a trip into the Gatineau’s to a sugar shack where the process of collecting maple syrup now and in the past was explained
  • Day 3 had them up at 6:00 am and a walk to the Parliament Buildings in the rain
  • They went to the House of Commons where they got to sit in the Speaker’s chair and the Speaker did a Q and A
  • The Speaker also explained how to become the Speaker for the House of Commons
  • At lunch, they filled out the answers to 10 questions about what they thought a good citizen was
  • Day 4 had them listen to speakers (Lynne and Diane, Natalie Coutou) about Reconciliation
  • They also went to the Canadian History Museum which Skylar found to be very impressive
  • Day 5 they went to a Citizenship Ceremony to where a judge swore in 46 new Canadian citizens
  • When asked what she liked the best, Skylar said that the Citizenship Ceremony was very emotional
  • She flew back home later in that afternoon, again on Porter Airlines
  • Skylar did a very good presentation and answered several questions
  • She again thanked the club for choosing her to go
2.  Ron:  Ken Corlett, who looks after the District Polio Program, presented District 6380 Polio Plus  Society Awards to our new members
  • Ken explained all about the Paul Harris Awards and why they are given out
  • Joel V and David B received theirs
  • Beatrice will be given hers when she can be at a meeting
  • Kees explained that our club is an All Paul Harris club, meaning that all of our members have made at least a $1000 donation to the Rotary Foundation Paul Harris
  • Our club has made donations to the Rotary Foundation for these three members
  • They received a PH pin and a certificate

Other Business:
1.  Paul will go to the RDHS graduation, June 27th, on President Ron’s behalf to present the club’s awards
2.  The Canada Day Parade is on June 27th
  • All service clubs have been asked to put in a float
  • Details can be finalized at our June 24th meeting
3.  Paul, Kees, Bob and Joel will all be volunteering at the June 10-11 Special Olympics, at the Ridgetown Campus of the U. of G.
  • Bocce ball and basketball will be held there, with 3 other sports being held in Chatham at the CKSS track and the sports complex at St. Clair College

  • Murray for his 67th anniversary
  • David B and family took part in a recent half-marathon
  • Brian is expecting another great granddaughter
 
President Ron asked if there was “Anything for the good of Rotary?”
Ron closed the meeting at 7:45 pm
