Meeting Date:  On Monday, May 13, 2024, after the usual wonderful ham meal prepared by the ACW, Ron started this meeting by thanking the ladies in the kitchen.
Program:  Murray Scoyne introduced his guest speaker, Todd Laidlaw, from the Ridgetown Village
  • Todd Laidlaw, lifestyle consultant for the “Village”
  • retirement residency
  • Village almost 50 years old - plans in the works to build a replacement home within the next 5+ years
  • there are 3 tiers to care:
    • 1. Assisted Living (65 suites)
    • 2. Enhanced Living (25 suites)
    • 3. Long Term Care (30 suites)
  • all 3 tiers socialize together - thus a “real community”
  • Assisted Living details:
    • Base price: $3695 (combination of rent + hospitality: meals, snacks, housekeeping, activities etc.)
      • additional costs: insurance for liability & contents
    • independent care with additional services as determined by guests
    • 8 categories of additional services, all at additional costs, each broken down to 3 tiers
    • 24/7 nursing care available upon requests
 
  • Q & A:
    • Ben - rumours of staff being laid off?
      • Todd - no, in fact there is a high retention rate
    • Henny - staff are paid minimum wage?
      • Todd - some, dependent on education & experience
    • Who owns the Village?
      • Revera - owns the land & buildings
      • Extendicare - management of all services
      • publicly listed companies, very profitable
    • Henny - is their central air conditioning?
      • common areas, yes; suites, no, individual A/C units
    • Henny - what is being done to higher PSW’s?
      • low turnover, thus no problem recruiting
    • Jeff - where do low-income people in our community go, if they can’t afford to the cost of the Village?
      • Todd - government help for LTC, not for the other 2 tiers - long waiting list for those who apply for assistance
 
  • the philosophy of the Village is: “enhance one’s wellbeing”
  • Todd had brochures available to all to consult
