President Kees opened the meeting at 6:30 pm. After the national anthem, grace and dinner, plus thanking the ACW for the dinner, Kees started the meeting.

The Centre’
  • After conducting a short amount of business, as seen below, we went to the Centre
  • We met there at 7.15 pm and were welcomed by The Centre’s Executive Director Sharon Alliet
  • Sharon gave us a brief history of its development from an initial idea to the wonderful building it now is
  • The planning for this Centre started with the formation of the Business Plan Development Team in 2018 with the original plan to build a new centre beginning in 2016.
  • It finally became a reality in the late summer of 2022
 
 
  • Several members of The Centre’s Board were also there to take us in small groups tours of the many aspects of the building  including the exercise room, kitchen, two larger meeting rooms which are separated by a folding wall, the pool table and ping pong room, computer and board room and the director’s office
  • It is a very impressive building and it was certainly obvious that a tremendous amount of planning and work into making it happen

  • A letter was received from the Salvation Army, asking us to once again participate in their annual Christmas Campaign
  • There were several options, which Paul read out to members
  • No decision was made or discussed at this time
 
Committees:
1.  Medical Equipment: No report
2.  Scrap metal: Kees
  • One container was loaded and taken by Zubler, with little help from Rotarians
  • A cheque for $1340.00 was received
3.   Grant for tree project: Kees
  • A grant cheque is on its way for this project
4.  Polio Project for Oct. 24: Kees/Ben
  • Honey Dips will be sold with a portion of each sale going to Rotary International, through our club
  • Thanks to Ben for his efforts and generosity
  • Ron Bolohan will be there for part of the day playing his accordion
 
 
President Kees asked if there was “Anything for the good of Rotary?”
Kess closed the meeting at 7:05 to allow members and guests to make their way to The Centre.
The next meeting is on Oct. 24, 2022. Bob W will have guest speaker Kelly Johnson, speaking on the topic of stray cats.
 
The Dec. 5 meeting will be a Christmas meal instead of Dec 19.
