After the usual wonderful meal prepared by the ACW, Kees started the meeting, in place of Ron who could not attend.
Program: Henny Boeters introduced Kim Scoyne who talked about the Free Help Food Box at the Royal Canadian Legion.
1. Kim:
Kim works (volunteer) for Free Help C-K
They wanted to put Free Food Pantries around C-K
Kim was asked to put one in Ridgetown and the Legion was very receptive
It is under the awning at the Legion, No vandalism and seems to be used by many
She fills it every 2-3 days
Bread, milk, sweets, frozen veggies in the winter, canned goods and other food are put in in for a well-balanced selection weather permitting for the cans
Kim joined Food Bank in Simcoe where she was for 10 years
When she and Gary moved to Ridgetown, she worked for Outreach for Hunger for a few years.
After retiring she asked if the Free Help C-K group needed help and the rest is history
Amanda Brown helps her once a week and Ron Gold fills it the other day of the week
Life is expensive and Kim went over the cost for an average 4-person family to live for a week, month and year
Kim also went over some of the other Programs for Free Help CK
Cinderella - prom dresses, suits and accessories - Free
They had 14 backpacks full of supplies that came to Ridgetown to the elementary schools in town
Free Help CK also accesses Second Harvest program, where food that is near its best before date is used
Most can goods can usually be for 1-2 years
They only used those that are 6 months into their expiration date
They also do a Adopt a Senior program where seniors receive a Christmas meal and a gift - 7 seniors in Ridgetown and area received this
Paul thanked Kim for a wonderful presentation about a wonderful program

1 Paul: How many are we sending to RYLA?
Ron has to send in the short registration form by soon
RYLA 2024 will be on April 19-21, 2024 at Camp Copneconic in Fenton, MI.

Paul will phone Kristina,, who is the co-chair and invite her to speak at our Mar. 8th meeting
2. Kees: New Year’s Eve skate at the arena
7:30-8:30 pm, with hot chocolate provided
Kees and Henny will be there

The secretary neglected to bring the correspondence form our last meeting
He will bring it to the next meeting
