Meeting Date:   2022-08-20 at the Anglican Hall.
The meeting started at 7:10, after a supper of a boxed meal from Sam’s Restaurant in Ridgetown.
 
Program:
 
1.  Kees: Tree Planting
  • 102 Trees will be planted in an area mowed by the municipality along the Memorial Tree Trail, on 2022-10-01
  • This is a shared project with the Horticultural Society
 
2 Kees: Next meeting details.
  • Sept 12 joint meeting with Dresden in their new hall
  • visit with District 6380 Governor Bala
  • Board meeting same day start at 3.30 PM at Kees’ Home, with Bala
  • Need plans for this year and financial report
  • Also show projects that have been done in the past so as the med center, benches, and Senior Center
  • 6.00 PM carpool leaves for Dresden Rotary Club The Wheelhouse 547 North street Dresden
  • Let Kees know on time who is coming to this combined meeting this is important to let Dresden know how many extra meals they have to order
 
3. Kees introduced Joan Cofell to speak about her continued work with monarch butterflies.
  • Joan thanked Bob Wilson for inviting her to speak
  • Joan continues her work with Monarchs, as she described to us the last time she spoke to us
  • Monarchs are not doing well, compared to 20 years ago
  • She mentioned that in the area where they winter, their breeding ground has shrunk from 18 hectares to only 2.3-2.4 in 2020-21
  • This is not a good year for Monarchs
  • A group went out to Rondeau Park to tag monarchs and didn’t find any
  • Joan mentioned several plants that we could plant in our gardens that attract monarchs, including either the common or swamp milkweed
  • She also described how she tags wings and fixes wings, plus the whole process of the monarchs going from caterpillars to butterflies
  • Kees thanked Joan for once again providing us with information about these wonderful butterflies
 
4. Kees: Request from Trust, a former student at the Ridgetown Campus of the U of G
  • He is working as a food inspector in London
  • He is looking for furniture for his apartment in London
  • Joan mentioned that there is some in the Anglican Hall that he can have if he can find a way to get them
 
Note: No minutes from the Theatre production in Petrolia.
President Kees asked if there was “Anything for the good of Rotary?”
Kees closed the meeting at 7:40 pm
