Meeting Date:  The meeting was at 11:45 am at the Anglican Parish Hall, with a directors’ meeting following. The ACW provided a nice lunch of sandwiches and salad.
Correspondence:  None
 
Program:  Henny introduced the District Governor Sharna Hatcher, going over her 18 year history in Rotary
  • This was her first time in Ridgetown and she was very happy to be here
  • She thanked us for our membership and efforts to obtain new members
  • Her club started with only 2 members and through a lot of work it is now at 22
  • Sharna and another member took over the charter and built it up to what it is now
  • They are there to serve their community
  • Her favourite quote is “ Serving Others is Love Made Visible”
  • She operates on PIP: “People, Impact and Promise”
  • She believes that Rotary allows ordinary people to do extraordinary things
  • The theme of RI this year is “The Magic of Rotary”
  • The colours of Rotary are orange and blue and Sharna went through the rational for those colours
  • She explained the different aspects of her year as DG
  • Membership and Marketing
  • Leadership Development and Pipeline
  • Rotary International and the impact for what Rotary does
  • Youth Services: RYLA, Youth Exchange, Interact (Note: Paul explained the Adventures in Canada program that we participate in each year)
  • Community Collaboration:  Members explained to Sharna all the various projects/programs that we participate in each year within our community
  • Connect, Engage, Give and Elevate: Sharna explained the importance of each one
  • RI has a goal that each club bring in 4 new members which is an idea that Sharna is fully behind: Ron explained that with the small size of Ridgetown, our goal is for 2 new members
  • Sharna explained that the district is here to support clubs
  • She explained Cross Functionality>Membership>Public Image>Foundation
  • The Foundation Dinner is on Thursday, Nov. 14 at 5:30 pm in Rochester Hills with Sharna briefly explaining her plans for this dinner to make it fun as well as informative
  • She urged all members to consider going
  • David B asked Sharna for one suggestion to help us get new members
  • Sharna’s suggestion was to invite potential members to take part in one of our projects to see what we actually do as a club
  • Sharna again thanked us for having her to our meting and hoped that we have a good year
 
Committees:  
1.  Kees:  Scrap Steel
  • Over the past few weeks, we sorted the scrap bin and obtained over $2000 of copper and aluminum
2.   Kees:  Corn Stalks Results
  • Kees thanked all those who took part in collecting the stalks and putting them up on Main St and a few other places
3.   Ben:  Doughnuts for Polio (Pinnells and club) Oct 24
  • An ad has been placed in the Independent to run Oct. 9 and 16
  • Ben will need helpers to make the donuts
  • Ron B will play his accordion at Pinnell’s during the day
4.   Kees: Tree planting will be on Nov. 2
 
New Business
1.  Paul:  The Gift, Nov. 30
  • We will do our normal quadrant in Ridgetown
  • Paul will notify whoever is coordinating it in Ridgetown
2.   Ben: He is the leader for Nov.-Dec. and asked members for some ideas
After this meeting, the directors and Sharna had a Directors’ meeting and then several of the directors took Sharna down to the Cenotaph to see our Peace Pole.
Leader Bob W   asked if there was “Anything for the good of Rotary?”
Leader Bob W closed the meeting at 1:30 pm.
The next meeting is on:  Monday, Oct. 21 with Ron B’s speaker. Note: Paul B will not be present so Judie will be the secretary for that meeting.
